Northampton Town 3-0 Rotherham United

The Cobblers pulled off another massive win this afternoon to move 5 points clear of the bottom 4 in League One. Six points against fellow relegation cadidates Brentford on Monday and now Rotherham today have set us up well going into the last furlong of the season.

Kenny Deuchar netted his first goal for the club before furthar first half goals from Mark Hughes, scoring his first professional goal, and Ian Taylor completed a comfortable win. The victory takes us up to 16th in League One and takes a little pressure of the tough looking game at Bristol City next weekend.

Brentford 0-1 Northampton Town

In what could be the defining win of the season, the Cobblers ground out a 1-0 win thanks to a bullet from Jason Crowe.

I wandered along to our superb local, the Brass Monkey in blind faith that they would agree to show the game on one of their many screens and the manager was more than helpful, even leaving the sound on one of the screens for us.

So there we were, just me and Jamie in the corner of a Southampton pub cheering on the Town and there must have been the odd Cobblers fan dotted about England (and one for certain in Portugal) trying their best to find a screen for this crunch game.

We looked assured from the off, Jason Crowe getting acres of space for crosses down the right. Kenny Duchar, starting up front with Jordan Robertson, headed straight into the arms of former Cobblers keeper Nathan Abbey early on before Robertson hit a rocket of a shot onto the crossbar. The breakthrough was coming and when it did come, what a goal it was. Crowe picked the ball up mid-way in thr Brentford half, controlled and then hit the ball into the top corner past the flailing Abbey, sending two men in Shirley, Southampton, and hundreds, nay, Thousands of Cobblers around the country (and Portugal) wild!

Half time came around quickly and with no real threat to our goal so a celebratory game of ITBOX Boggle was in order. Jamie lost. Badly. I didn't even attempt to figure out what was going on so we resettled for the second half.

It was tight. Nothing much happened apart from a good couple of saves from Bunn- the palm away from Neil Shipperley's header standing out but apart from that the Cobblers looked assured and solid at the back. You would usually expect a barrage of attacks from a home side 1-0 down but apart from a few crosses that looked worrying we seemed confortable and held onto possession towards the end impressivly to grind out a massive 1-0 win.

Next up are bottom club Rotherham United on Saturday and three more points would give us a bit of breathing space before the tough trip to Bristol City.

Phew!

Brentford v Northampton Town- The Line Ups!

Brentford Abbey, O'Conner, Frampton, Richards, Keith, Tillen, Mousinho, Osborne, Ide, Shipperley, Kuffour

Subs: Nelson, Pinault, Griffiths, Brooker, Willock

Cobblers Bunn, Crowe, Pearce, Hughes, Doig, Holt, Hunt, Aiston, Brad Johnson, Deuchar, Robertson

Subs: Dunn, Dyche, Taylor, Kirk, Laird

So Jordan Robertson is included in the starting line-up in place of Andy Kirk. Good decision in my opinion giving the lad a chance in place of an off looking Kirk.

Brentford (A) Preview...LIVE ON SKY SPORTS ONE...7:30pm

The Cobblers face their second live outing on Sky Sports this season in a simply massive bottom of the table clash at Griffin Park this evening (7:45pm k/o).

The Bees sit 4 points behind us in League One but are on a good run of form, highlighted by their excellent 2-0 win t Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

It promises to be a tough night for the Cobblers who are notoriously poor in front of tv cameras. Ian Taylor may return after sitting out of Friday night's draw with Gillingham while Jordan Robertson is pushing for a starting berth following his second goal of his loan spell in the same game.

The first of two huge games for the Cobblers that could make or break the season with Rotherham United visiting Sixfields on Saturday.

Northampton Town 1-1 Gillingham

So the Cobblers were held at Sixfields last night but can be grateful for a late equiliser from Jordan Robertson, scoring his second goal in two substitute appearances. It looked ominous as the Gills took the lead in the second half through Dean McDonald but Robertson came off the bench to fire us level and at least keep up outside of the bottom four ahead of a massive relegation double header this week.

First off is Brentford live on Sky this Monday night before a home game with bottom club Rotherham United on Saturday in what will surely be a key week in the season.

Gillingham (H) Preview...

The Cobblers are back at home tomorrow night for the massive clash with Gillingham.

With other sides around us picking up pace as we falter (4 defeats in a row now) it's looking ominous as the season goes into its final chapter.

The Cobblers ran out 1-0 winners at The Priestfield Stadium in August and a repeat performance would be very very welcome! Pedj Bojic and Joe Burnell will definately miss out while Chris Doig will more than likely miss out as well, leaving the youthful duo of Hughes and Pearce to remain in central defence.

We need a win now more than ever, come on Town!

The challenge is set...

So last week I told of my new venture/challenge to get something named after me by the end of 2007. Now this seems a long way off but the challenge has now been taken to a new level by Jamie who has laid a bet of £20 down that I can't complete the challenge.

Luckily for me, my awesome girlfriend Ti has a "back up plan" if needed apparantly. I have no idea what that it but it's an intriguing addition to this persuit.

More news to follow as the quest goes on...

Nottingham Forest 1-0 Northampton Town

Quick recap and rubbishy short report once again I'm afraid but it's been another busy few days in Danny World.

The Cobblers crashed to defeat at the City Ground last Saturday in a game in which we could have got something from until the goal from Julan Bennett went it mid way through the second half. The first was a decent performance from the Cobblers and new signings Mark Hughes and (more recent signing) Alex Pearce were standing solidly in the middle of the back four. Mark Bunn pulled off two magnificent saves once again and Ian Taylor hit the post before the deadlock was broken by Bennett, heading in a basic right wing free kick.

So the poor run of form goes on and tomorrow night's Sixfields clash with Gillingham now takes on must win status before Monday night's relegation six pointer live on sky with Brentford at Griffin Park.

I'm bored...so time for a silly project...

I've been thinking about this one for a couple of weeks. Ever since Ti and I took a random trip up St. Catherine's Hill in Winchester in fact. That was around ten days ago and the name of the hill got me thinking of a little challenge for myself for 2007.

If St. Catherine can get a hill named after her, then why can't I, a regular man and recent graduate, get something named after me as well? And why bother?

The answer to both the above questions is "Why not" in my humble opinion and so as of now I am beginning the search to find something that I can get named after me. I have no idea what I need to do to reach this achievement but I've set myself a target of December 31st to complete it. Other rules include not being able to steal something that's already named and that it has to be made official by someone (preferably with a certificate...or a badge...hmm...)

Updates will continue on this blog so keep checking back for more!

Port Vale 1-0 Northampton Town

The Cobblers have suffered a third defeat in a row tonight and heading into the game at Forest on Saturday it's looking dangerous down at the foot of League One again.

Danny Whittaker hit the winner a couple of minutes into the second half while Kenny Deuchar missed a couple of good chances at the other end before the game dragged out without a real effort on goal from the Town.

Port Vale v Northampton Town- The Line Ups!

The Cobblers travel to Vale Park tonight in search of any kind of result to stop the run of successive defeats.

Vale Anyon, Pilkington, Sonner, Walsh, Constantine, Whitaker, McGregor, Miles, Sodje, Gardner, Kamara

Subs: Husbands, Cardle, Hulbert, Prosser, Musselwhite

Cobblers Bunn, Crowe, Hughes, Dyche, Holt, Burnell, Taylor, Laird, Brad Johnson, Kirk, Deuchar

Subs: Dunn, Aiston, Hunt, Robertson, Gilligan

So the Cobblers must do without skipper Chris Doig tonight so it looks like it's back to a 4-4-2 formation.

Northampton Town 1-2 Crewe Alexandra

The Cobblers suffered their second successive defeat at Sixfields this afternoon with Luke Varney inspiring Crewe to a narrow victory. Varney struck mid way through the first half before Brad Johnson equlised for the Cobblers to briefly bring us back into the game. Just 90 seconds later though, Varney put the Railwaymen back in front. Chris Doig thought he had earned a point but his goal was disallowed.

So we now head to a very tough looking double bill of away games. First up is the rearranged game at Port Vale on Tuesday night before teh long awaited trip to Nottingham Forest next Saturday. We're right back in the relegation battle now and this double dose of tough fixtures hasn't come at the best of times!

Northampton Town v Crewe Alexandra- The Line Ups!

Cobblers Bunn, Crowe, Hughes, Dyche, Doig, Holt, Jess, Burnell, Johnson, Kirk, Deuchar

Subs: Dunn, Taylor, Aiston, Laird, Robertson

Crewe Williams, Otsemobor, Jones, Roberts, Baudet, Cox, O' Conner, Vaughan, Varney, Lowe, Moss

Subs: Higdon, Bignot, Pope, Jack, O'Donnell

Crewe Alexandra (H) Preview...

A lot of water has passed under the bridge since our last meeting with the Railwaymen on the opening day of the season. John Gorman decided enough was enough, Scott McGleish banged in the goals and then left, closely followed by Luke Chambers while the Sixfields Starling have often provided more entertainment than the action on the pitch.

Since that 2-2 draw way back in August, we've flirted with relegation before Stuart Gray picked us up a little and has taken us to mid-table. Crewe have gone the other way, starting well but fading as late and the 4-0 home drubbing by lowly Orient last week will have them wanting to make amends this afternoon.

Kenny Deuchar (have I spelt it right yet?) and Mark Hughes look set for their debuts, slotting in for the departed due of Scotty and Chambers while James Quinn will most likely drop to the bench. A chance to move up the table a little this afternoon but the Railwaymen should certainly not be taken lightly.

We'll probably win now I'm not going!
