Brentford 0-1 Northampton Town

In what could be the defining win of the season, the Cobblers ground out a 1-0 win thanks to a bullet from Jason Crowe.

I wandered along to our superb local, the Brass Monkey in blind faith that they would agree to show the game on one of their many screens and the manager was more than helpful, even leaving the sound on one of the screens for us.

So there we were, just me and Jamie in the corner of a Southampton pub cheering on the Town and there must have been the odd Cobblers fan dotted about England (and one for certain in Portugal) trying their best to find a screen for this crunch game.

We looked assured from the off, Jason Crowe getting acres of space for crosses down the right. Kenny Duchar, starting up front with Jordan Robertson, headed straight into the arms of former Cobblers keeper Nathan Abbey early on before Robertson hit a rocket of a shot onto the crossbar. The breakthrough was coming and when it did come, what a goal it was. Crowe picked the ball up mid-way in thr Brentford half, controlled and then hit the ball into the top corner past the flailing Abbey, sending two men in Shirley, Southampton, and hundreds, nay, Thousands of Cobblers around the country (and Portugal) wild!

Half time came around quickly and with no real threat to our goal so a celebratory game of ITBOX Boggle was in order. Jamie lost. Badly. I didn't even attempt to figure out what was going on so we resettled for the second half.

It was tight. Nothing much happened apart from a good couple of saves from Bunn- the palm away from Neil Shipperley's header standing out but apart from that the Cobblers looked assured and solid at the back. You would usually expect a barrage of attacks from a home side 1-0 down but apart from a few crosses that looked worrying we seemed confortable and held onto possession towards the end impressivly to grind out a massive 1-0 win.

Next up are bottom club Rotherham United on Saturday and three more points would give us a bit of breathing space before the tough trip to Bristol City.

Phew!
