Steve Guinan was back in style on Tuesday afternoon as he bagged a hat-trick for the Cobblers' reserves in an impressive 4-0 rout of Southend United at Sixfields. Guinan, who has been out for a couple of months with a hernia problem, played sixty minutes and opened the scoring early on following good work from Stephen O'Flynn. The striker then went on to net twice more before being withdrawn on the hour.
O'Flynn got a deserved goal himself to round of the scoring and Courtney Herbert and Gary Mulligan also put in good shifts on either side of the front two.
It gives Sammo plenty to think about for the closing stages of the season when the squad will certainly need to be used in a busy program that includes two games over the Easter Bank Holiday and a quick fire double with fellow contenders Notts County and Rotherham United in April.
