Stockport County (A) Preview

The Cobblers travel to Stockport County this evening knowing that a win would propel us from the bottom four into the top half of the table. County, though, will go into the top six with a win so there’s all to play for at Edgeley Park.

Form

Since winning promotion through the playoffs last season, Stockport have made a steady start to life in League One with their only defeat so far coming at home to Scunthorpe United. At the weekend, they enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 win at Leyton Orient to keep them within touching distance of the top six.

The Cobblers come into the game off the back of a 1-1 home draw in the derby against Peterborough United at the weekend. We currently lie fourth from bottom in the table but a result tonight would take us away from the bottom four.

Team News

Stockport should welcome back Peter Thompson after he was taken off at half-time during the weekend win over Orient. Carl Baker, Jason Taylor and Matty McNeil are all out of the game but County could have Johnny Mullins back in contention.

Stuart Gray will wait until the final minutes before naming his side with Adebayo Akinfenwa, Chris Doig and Liam Davis all doubts. Doig and Akinfenwa both sat out of the derby game while Davis was withdrawn at half time with a viral infection. Jason Crowe was sent off in that game and serves a one match suspension.
