The Cobblers have been paired with Southampton in the first round of the Carling Cup in the first draw of the new season. The game will be played at St Mary’s on week commencing 10th August 2009, a few days after the start of the league season. It’s a draw I’ve been waiting for with my local team facing my beloved Town having lived in and around Southampton since 2003.
It will also mean a return to St Mary’s for Stuart Gray who briefly managed the Saints in the Premier League. The actual date for the game is yet to be announced but it should be a decent night on the south coast in the first week of the 2009/10 season.
