MK Dons (A) Preview...

The Cobblers travel up the road to Milton Keynes tomorrow afternoon as we take on the MK Dons for the first time.

Form

The Dons faced a tough opening day fixture at relegated Leicester City and went down 2-0 at the Walker Stadium. But they recovered from that early set back to impressively knock Norwich out of the Carling Cup on Tuesday night.

The Cobblers were 4-2 home winners over Cheltenham last Saturday before a Jason Crowe goal was enough to see off Millwall at the Den in the Carling Cup.

Team News

Giles Coke and Abdul Osman both played a part in Tuesday night’s Carling Cup win over Millwall and both come back into contention for a first league start of the season. There were no fresh injury worries for Stuart Gray after Tuesday and he has a near full strength squad to choose from.

Dons manager Roberto Di Matteo welcomed back defender Danny Swailes in their 1-0 Carling Cup win over Norwich in the week and he could come into contention. Meanwhile, Drissa Diallo is also close to a first team return.

Recent Meetings

There have been no meetings between the sides in the short history of the MK Dons. We have been avoiding playing each other for the past couple of seasons but now we’re in the same league for the very first time.

The Managers’ views....

MK Dons boss Roberto Di Matteo: “I think our players are experienced enough to stay focused on the game and not get caught up in different thoughts. It’s our first home league game so we want to do well and derby games are always a bit different, a bit special.”

Cobblers chief Stuart Gray: “We are all looking forward to Saturday’s game and I’m sure the supporters are as well. Local derbies are always special occasions, I played in quite a few high profile derbies as a player but I haven’t been involved in too many as a manager.”
