CARLING CUP FIRST ROUND
The Cobblers travel to Millwall tomorrow evening following a successful start to the season. It’s the second time in two seasons we’ve faced the Lions in the Carling Cup but this time, they have home advantage.
Form
The Cobblers defeated Cheltenham Town on Saturday with the help of two penalties from Adebayo Akinfenwa. Chris Doig and Leon Constantine were also on the score sheet as we made a perfect start to the League One campaign.
Millwall were involved in a seven goal thriller at the weekend as they narrowly lost out to Oldham 4-3. Tresor Kendol took just a minute to score his first goal for the Lions but Oldham equalised through Andy Liddell soon after. Ruben Hazel’s own goal and one from young Lewis Grabban gave Millwall a 3-1 lead but Oldham stormed back. Liddell scored from the spot before Lewis Alessandra and Chris Taylor won it in the last ten minutes for the home side.
With both sides involved in high scoring matches at the weekend, it should be a goal fest at the Den. Put your bets on 0-0 then!
Team News
Abdul Osman has served his once match ban and should make his competitive debut for the club after joining from Gretna in the summer. Giles Coke may not be risked after he missed the opening game of the season with an ankle injury while Adebayo Akinfenwa should feature to give him more match fitness.
Millwall captain Paul Robinson could be suspended for the Cobblers clash. Robinson was sent off during Saturday’s 4-3 reverse at Oldham and will sit out the game should a planned appeal be rejected.
