No Saints 2-4 Kashima Antlers

No Saints put in a disastrous performance in the rain as we went down 4-2 to severely dent our promotion hopes. Kashima hadn’t beaten us before last night and were at the wrong end of the table with three points.

But after a sloppy game from us and some good play from the Antlers, they took home a well deserved victory. Antler took the lead before half time after a tight first half. The game opened up as we looked for an equaliser and eventually found it through Jamie’s third goal of the season.

We pushed forward and could have taken the lead but Kashima broke away and scored a cheeky backheel goal after a punch out by Aaron in goal. As we pushed forward looking for the equaliser, Kashima exploited the gaps in our defence and eased in two more to put the game beyond doubt.

Abib added his seventh of the season late on but it was too little too late in a game that mirrored last season’s awful showing against the Eagles. We must now bounce back the way we did then in order to save our promotion bid. We’re still in second place but face leaders Posh next week with everything to play for.
