Town complete double signing...

As the deadline draws ever nearer, the Cobblers have today swooped in two deals that sound very promising.

20-year-old defender Mark Hughes joins from Everton, where his first team chances were limited but the Toffees were apparantly keen to keep the youngster. Hughes can score goals and could be a direct replacement for the outgoing Luke Chambers.

Meanwhile, we've also signed striker Kenny Deuchar from Gretna on loan for the rest of the season. Deuchar has hit 66 goals in 82 starts for the Scottish First Division leaders during their rise up the leagues in the last few seasons. Standing at over 6" he should add a real presence to our attack.

Chambers completes Forest move

Cobblers defender Luke Chambers today completed his expected move to join former boss Colin Calderwood at Nottingham Forest for an undisclosed fee. Chambers leaves us having made 149 appearances for the club. Chambers can not play in the game between the clubs in two weeks as part of the deal.

Rumours were that the fee included a player exhange with Forest for striker Jack Lester but no news on anything liek that materialising as yet.

So good luck to Chambers and hopefully he will fulfill his potential at a club that is more than likely going to be promoted this season.

As for the Cobblers, well, we switch our attention now to tomorrow's final day of the transfer window. An experienced striker is surely needed and we wait to see if any money from the Chambers and McGleish deals will be spent on new faces.

Northampton Town 2-3 Oldham Athletic

No time for a full report of the hectic day for me but it basically involved waking up in London at 9am on Sunday and having a last minute change of plan. After a lovely walk up St Catherine's Hill in Winchester on Saturday with Ti, I headed for Jamie's place in Hampton Court for a scrumptious curry with his family to celebrate his birthday. How many parties is that now?

So the plan was to visit Hampton Court Palace on Sunday but Ti sent a text to wake me on Sunday morning saying she couldn't make it. And so began my mad dash across London, having to dodge around the closed Northern Line and even being faced with the possibility of the Replacement Bus Service until Dad saved me that fate in Milton Keynes.

After all that running about I just knew we would lose the game. Oldham went in front within 90 seconds and after a brief resurgence through an Andy Kirk leveller, the visitors hit back just before half time and mid way through the second half to go 3-1 up. Jordan Robertson, making his first appearance after coming on as a half time subtitute finished well on 88 minutes to set up a grand stand finish but then wasted a good chance to level the game dramatically in stoppage time.

So the long journey home began and the tiredness from the weekend is a major reason for the lack of a full report on the game! Next up is Crewe at Sixfields this Saturday as we look to bounce back from Stuart Gray's first defeat in charge of the Cobblers.

Bunn pens new Cobblers deal

Big news from the club today that goalkeeper Mark Bunn has penned a new contract that keeps him tied to the club until 2009.

Whether he'll be here until then is highly unlikely after a fantastic season for us this term but what it does mean is that should anyone come in for him in the summer, we could receive a big payment for a player who is surely going to go on to play at a higher level.

Watt in Morecombe loan...Robertson signs...

More ins and outs today at The Cobblers with Jerome Watt making a one month loan switch to Morcombe and 18 year old striker Jordan Robertson joining the club on loan from Sheffield United.

Watt has seen his first team chances limited in the last month or so and a loan deal is a smart move for the youngster to get some matches under his belt at a competitive level.

Robertson hasn't made an appearance for the Blades as yet but has recently completed a successful loan spell with League Two Torquay United in which he scored 4 times in 6 games.

McGleish leaves Cobblers for Chairboys...

Cobblers top scorer Scott McGleish has this evening signed for League Two promotion hopefuls Wycombe Wanderers for an undisclosed fee.

McGleish was placed on the transfer list along with fellow strikers Andy Kirk and James Quinn at the start of the transfer window.

The search must now begin for a replacement and Stuart Gray has one week left to fill the gap left by McGleish's departure.

Thanks for the goals Scotty and all the best.

Gray makes first signing...New date for Vale trip...

Stuart Gray has today made his first signing as Cobblers boss, bringing in Man City youngster Marc Laird on a month's loan. Described as a "box to box" player, he'll hopefully bring some energy to the middle of the park.

Meanwhile, the Cobblers' trip to Port Vale, postponed last Saturday, has been switched to Tuesday, February 6th with a 7:45pm kick off.

Northampton Town 3-0 Millwall

The Cobblers move up to 15th in League One after a comfortable victory in the rearranged fixture with Millwall.

Last night saw us record a third straight win at Sixfields and for the second home game in a row we score three times (typical that we start scoring when I miss games!). Scott McGleish netted the first before Andy Holt and Bradley Johnson struck their first goals for the club.

Stuart Gray now has 7 points from his first 3 games in charge and we go into Sunday's Sixfields clash with Oldham Athletic full of confidence.

I've had the Thyme of my life...

And so it came to pass...the first (and most probably last) J-Day Birthday Event Extravaganza Thingy turned out exactly how we wanted it. The weather was fine, if a little cold, and we feasted away on the usual picnic favourites.

On Saturday night, Ti and I were feeling very silly. We thought up a plan to get Jamie and Dave to bring something random and completely unrelated to the adventure and finally decided that these objects should be the popular spice combination of Rosemary and Thyme.

Jamie didn't disappoint...in fact we sat and watched as he and Annamaria left the pub and headed to Co-Op to search for the holy goods. He proudly displayed the thyme and created far too many "Thyme/Time" puns, none of which are worth repeating here.

Dave and Marti would be arriving late so we left Jamie and Annamaria with the first set of instrcutions, to be opened when the Stuart-Marquez's arrived. A sudden dash to Ti's house (for some string and a balloon pump that we'd forgotten) later and we were on our merry way. We did get lost once along the way but it turns out that the others got lost in the same way later on so we had time (that's TIME) on our hands to get the picnic set up.

Balloons were tied to random bits of wood that I hunted out and a banner was put up before we made a start on preparing the buffet of sandwiches, dips, schnapppppps and pringles and we feasted away. The cold was getting to us so we wouldn't be able to stay for long, and so the cake was rushed out.

That's right, there was a cake! The cake that we spent half of last night working on thanks to my Mum's recipe and some much needed help from Ti, Mital and Roopa. It was very nice, believe me.

Next up was a game of pass the parcel where under every wrapping was a challenge to make a different animal noise. Yes, the pass the parcel game was bought from Asda and meant for children under the age of 6. Perfect for us. Jamie eventually won the star prize of an animal "snap" game.

So that was that. An exhausting couple of weeks of planning, secrets and cake making is over but it's all been so worth it. Actually having a moment to take it all in now is making me so thankful that I stayed in Southampton. It's days like today that shows me how good my life is at the moment and it's something that I hope will last for a lot longer yet.

There's never been a more appropriate time (yes, TIME) to say...Good Thymes...I mean...GOOD TIMES!

J-Day Birthday Event Extravaganza thingy...it has arrived

And so after ten days of keeping secrets, talking in secret code and Jamie continuously trying to figure out what was going on, the big birthday event of the year has arrived. Ti and I have been working round the clock with perparations for the big day and I will reveal all about what the plan actually was and it it worked later on...

Port Vale P-P Northampton Town

Another postponement for the Cobblers yesterday as the game at Vale Park fell victim to the weather. A disappointment for Stuart Gray but we now turn our attention to the crunch game on Tuesday night with Millwall at Sixfields. Back in the final game of 2006, the game was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch and we now have a second chance to take the points!

Northampton Town 3-2 Carlisle United

The Cobblers come away with three massive points after a nervy finish at Sixfields. Andy Kirk and two goals from Scott McGleish gave us a comfortable 3-0 lead going into the last ten minutes but it was typically nervous stuff at the end with the visitors scoring twice late on.

But Stuart Gray leads his troops to a big home win and we're looking like heading in the right direction at the moment although we all know there's a long way to go.

Now we head for Port Vale next Saturday full of confidence and hopefully with an addition or two to the squad!

Crazy week of secrets and plans...

Appologies for the lack of updates but it's been a bit of a mad week that's seen me astonishingly have a social life!

Dave and Marti returned from a sunny holiday in Portugal to be met by myself and Ti with a very specially made invitation for themselves and Jamie's birthday "event". I can't disclose the contents of the "event" because of its secret nature but fair to say it's given Jamie something to think about. He's been hilariously trying to figure out the secret destination/place/spot for the event but once again for obvious reasons I can't say whether he's been close with any of his guesses. It's very funny to watch him try to figure it out though. See his blog to see him trying to work it out:

In other news, we've been back to our writing roots to come up with an idea to take up to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August. Fingers crossed for that one- it would be awesome to see some of our writing being performed!

Funds being low, my Cobblering activities will be hit over the next few weeks as bills take their toll but I'm there in spirit!

Carlisle United (H) Preview

Stuart Gray takes on his first home game in charge of the Cobblers tomorrow afternoon with the visit of Carlisle United at Sixfields.

Ian Taylor and Chris Doig will be missing through suspension but Sam Aiston came through 90 minutes in the reserves' 1-1 draw at Stevenage in midweek so could feature.

A tester of a game but one that we can win as Stuart Gray looks to get off to a good start with the Cobblers home support.

Tranmere Rovers 1-1 Northampton Town

The Cobblers were agonisingly pegged back at Prenton Park yesterday by yet another penalty decision going against us. After Scott McGleish gave us the lead, we looked good for a fantastic three points but 5 minutes from time, a controversial decision to award a penalty against Jason Crowe for handball led to John Mullin stepping up.

Bunn saved the spot kick but Mullin converted the rebound and though I would have been happy with a point before the game, it's desperatly annoying to lose the lead in that manner.

We now turn to a home game with Carlisle United on Saturday and the first chance for Stuart Gray to impress the home fans.

Tranmere Rovers v Northampton Town...The Line Ups!

Tranmere Rovers Hart, Stockdale, McLaren, Sherriff, Mullin, Taylor, Greenacre, Goodison, McCready, Davies, Shuker

Subs: Ward, Tremarco, Zola, Ellison, Harrison

Cobblers Bunn, Crowe, Chambers, Dyche, Doig, Holt, Taylor, Jess, Brad Johnson, Kirk, McGleish

Subs: Dunn, Hunt, Bojic, Quinn, Gilligan

So Stuart Gray names his first starting 11 with it looking like a wing back formation including the three centre backs. Chris Doig retains the captaincy while Joe Burnell is out through injury, replaced by Brad Johnson. Scott McGleish returns to the side, as does Sean Dyche.

Come on Town! Stuart Gray's Barmy Army!

Harper leaves Town

Goalkeeper Lee Harper has left the Cobblers after having his contract terminated by the club.

Harper, who will now join MK Dons, was forced out of the first team earlier this season after Mark Bunn's rise to prominance and refused to travel to Brighton after being left on the bench.

Cobblers appoint Gray

The Cobblers have this afternoon appointed former Southampton manager Stuart Gray as the new manager.

Gray's previous clubs include the Saints, Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers and he's worked under high profile managers like Glenn Hoddle and Graham Taylor.

A bit of a surprise appointment after some of the names that were linked with the job but he falls under a similar category as Colin Calderwood when he joined in 2003. Ian Sampson and Jim Barron ramain at the club as first team coaches.

Good luck Stuart!

Yeovil Town 0-0 Northampton Town

By all accounts a very good performance this afternoon and a superb point at promotion chasing Yeovil Town. Ian Sampson is doing a solid job so far and has certainly put right his first game in charge- that 3-0 loss at Oldham!

Rumour has it that the new manager will be installed this week and I for one hope Sammo is in contention!

Welcome 2007...Happy New Ladle!

The new year was seen in with a quiet evening and a loud night/morning.

Heading round to Dave and Marti's to join Tina and Jamie for an evening of usual random conversation and the not so usual board game playing, it was a great way to see in 2007 and proved that you don't need massive nights out and wild parties for new years if the right people are with you.

We very nearly missed the countdown after getting stuck in the middle of a game of Outburst. Outburst is a game where you have to name ten things that's on your opponents' cards, all linked to one subject. Our chosen subject was "Things you would find in a kitchen" and meant that 2007 was incredibly seen in by me shouting "Ladle, Ladle" at Dave and pretty much summed up the superb randomness of the company I keep!

Dave and Marti had to get some kip in before their 3am departure for Portugal and so we headed for the pub that had housed many fond memories of 2006- the Frog and Frigate. I was pretty knackered by 4am and it was lucky that we could find a taxi because I didn't fancy the hour long walk home!

So here we go with 2007...
