Crewe Alexandra (H) Preview...

The Cobblers welcome bottom club Crewe Alexandra to Sixfields this Saturday, desperate for a win to ease fears of slipping towards the bottom four. But the visitors will also be scrapping for points under new boss Gudjon Thordarson.

Team News

The Cobblers will include new loan signings Billy Clarke and Paul Rodgers in their squad for the visit of the Railwaymen. Striker Clarke signed a one month deal from Ipswich this week whilst Rodgers joined on a similar deal on Thursday. Danny Jackman could return after recovering from a knee ligament injury but Luke Guttridge is still missing. Jason Crowe will miss the game as he serves the final game of his suspension.

Crewe are without big defender Dennis Lawrence who misses the game with an Achilles injury whilst James Bailey is doubtful with a groin strain picked up in training. Ben Rix left the club after terminating his contract by mutual consent this week.

Form

The Cobblers were beaten 2-0 at Hartlepool United last Friday night as a patched up side couldn't cope with Joel Porter who netted both the goals to send us falling down the League One table by a couple of places.

New Crewe boss Gudjon Thordarson picked up his first win in charge of the club last weekend with a good 3-2 victory over Scunthorpe United. The game looked set to end in a draw late on but Daniel O' Donnell popped up with an injury time winner to seal the points for Crewe.

Recent Meetings

04/10/08: CREWE 1-3 COBBLERS

Danny Jackman puts the Cobblers in front on the stroke of half time but Tom Pope equalises ten minutes into the second half. Adebayo Akinfenwa slotted home a penalty to tip the game back in our favour and Abdul Osman sealed the win with twenty minutes to go.

01/03/08: COBBLERS 0-0 CREWE

The Cobblers fail to make ground on the playoffs in a frustrating goalless draw at Sixfields in March. Despite creating several chances we can't quite make them count and Crewe take home a share of the spoils.

17/11/08: CREWE 1-0 COBBLERS

Ryan Lowe's goal on the hour settles a poor game in November of last year to make it three straight league defeats for Stuart Gray's side.

03/02/07: COBBLERS 1-2 CREWE

Two goals from Luke Varney either side of a Brad Johnson reply for the Cobblers meant that Crewe took all three points from Sixfields.

05/08/06: CREWE 2-2 COBBLERS

On the opening day of the 06/07 season, Ryan Lowe put Crewe in front before Scott McGleish equalised. David Vaughan's goal on twenty minutes put the home side ahead once more but Andy Kirk made sure we went home with a point on our return to League One.

01/02/03: CREWE 3-3 COBBLERS

In a six-goal thriller, Steve Jones put Crewe in front before James Vaughan put them two up. Marco Gabbiadini pulled one back for the Cobblers from the spot and Richard Hope levelled the scores on the hour. Jones struck again with twenty minutes to go but Derek Asamoah salvaged a point.
