The Cobblers will travel to The Riverside Stadium in the Carling Cup Second Round after drawing Gareth Southgate’s Middlesbrough last night. Following the victory over Millwall on Tuesday night, Stuart Gray’s side will be hopeful of causing a major upset against the Premiership side, who have lost both of their opening two games this season.
Following a home defeat to Blackburn Rovers on the opening day of the season, Boro went down 1-0 at Wigan on Wednesday night.
The last time the sides met in the competition was in September 2001 when Boro ran out 3-1 winners at the Riverside with second half goals from David Murphy, Szilard Nemeth and Mark Wilson. Sam Parkin replied for the Cobblers.
The Cobblers may fancy their chances of an upset this time around if Boro’s shaky start to the season continues but either way, it’s a big test for us and with nothing to lose, who knows what could happen!
