Wolves claimed a comfortable victory over the Cobblers this evening as goals from Darren Ward, Andy Keogh and Fredy Eastwood meant another Sixfields friendly defeat for the Town.
In front of a crowd of just over 2,000 at Sixfields, Wolves took the lead on 22 minutes as new signing Darren Ward converted an Andy Keogh cross. Keogh then made it two from the penalty spot ten minutes later and despite good efforts from Bradley Johnson and Joe Burnell, Wolves went on to stretch their lead as Fredy Eastwood hit a low shot beyond Chris Dunn in the Cobblers goal.
So another difficult outing for us as pre-season rolls on but it’s not the result that we should be worrying about at the moment. Teams like West Brom and Wolves are far ahead of League One standard and we have to be glad that we’re at least getting a good warm up against a high standard of opposition.
Next up, though, is a team who we really must feel like we should overcome depending on the strength of our side as we travel to Nene Park on Saturday for the Maunsell Cup.
The pre-season so far:
UE San Jose 1-3 Cobblers
SD Portmany 0-5 Cobblers
Kettering Town 0-1 Cobblers
Cobblers 1-1 Coventry City
Cobblers 1-5 West Bromwich Albion
Cobblers 0-3 Wolverhampton Wanderers
