Northampton Town 1-5 West Bromwich Albion

The Cobblers suffered their first pre-season defeat this evening and it came in spectacular fashion as West Bromwich Albion ran riot at Sixfields.

From the moment Jonathon Greening hammered the visitors in front on 14 minutes, hitting a low shot against the post that rebounded off the back of Mark Bunn, it was one way traffic.

With ten minutes to go to half-time, Felipe Teixeira curled a spectacular second before Mark Hughes scored an own goal just before the break. Teixeira grabbed a second goal in the second half before Kevin Phillips made it five just a minute later.

The one consolation for the Cobblers was Ian Henderson’s late goal, driving in a low shot from the edge of the area past Dean Kiely but it was too little too late.

So a disappointing night overall at Sixfields and the home pre-season run comes to and end with Wolverhampton Wanderers the visitors on Tuesday evening.

The pre-season so far:

UE San Jose 1-3 Cobblers
SD Portmany 0-5 Cobblers
Kettering Town 0-1 Cobblers
Cobblers 1-1 Coventry City
Cobblers 1-5 West Bromwich Albion
