The Cobblers host Leyton Orient on Friday night as we look to build on the 1-0 win at Gillingham last weekend. The O’s have a good record at Sixfields though and are fighting for a playoff place following a good first half of the season. The Cobblers are in 15th place going into the game and recorded a 2-2 draw at Brisbane Road earlier in the season.
Team News
The Cobblers welcome back Poul Hubertz after a three game suspension and the big Dane is expected to go right back into the starting line-up for the clash. Adebayo Akinfenwa is expected to play some part in the game but could play some part. Liam Dolman is fit again and will challenge for a place in defence while Chris Doig is back in training but is still a couple of weeks away from returning to action.
Orient are without Alton Thelwell, Jabo Ibehre, Clayton Fortune and Wayne Gray but captain Stephen Purches could return after missing last week’s victory over Luton Town with a thigh injury. On loan Andy Barcham should be fit enough to play up front for the O’s.
The Story So Far…Leyton Orient in 2007/08…
Orient were one of the early pace setters in League One, winning five of their opening six games. Their only early set back was the 2-2 draw with the Cobblers as the O’s came from two goals down to earn a point. Their first defeat came in the 4-2 reverse at home to Hartlepool United in mid September. Orient bounced back in the last game of the month with a 3-2 win at Bristol Rovers, Jason Demetriou with the winner ten minutes from time.
October began poorly and they suffered defeats at Gillingham (3-1) and at home to Swansea (5-0) before picking up a point in a 1-1 draw at Leeds. Their only win of the month came at home to Port Vale as they came from behind to win 3-1 before the month ended with a 4-2 defeat at Doncaster.
An early goal from Charlie Daniels gave Orient a 1-0 home win over Oldham before draws with Swindon and Brighton. The O’s won at Huddersfield but disappointment followed in the F.A. Cup as they crashed out at Bristol Rovers in a First Round Replay, 6-5 on penalties.
At the start of December, Orient were beaten by London rivals Millwall, 1-0 before seeing of Cheltenham 2-0 at Brisbane Road. An inconsistent month saw defeat at Carlisle, a home draw with Yeovil and a loss at Bournemouth before 2007 ended with a 1-1 draw at Hartlepool.
The new year began with a draw as well as Gillingham held out for a 0-0 draw at Brisbane Road before Tranmere were hammered 3-0 to push Orient back up the table. After a 4-0 defeat at Forest, Orient hit back with a 2-1 home win over Luton last weekend. The win took them back up to sixth in the League One table.
