"Substantial bid" made for Johnson

The Cobblers have revealed that a “substantial bid” has been made for midfielder Brad Johnson. Johnson has been the topic of transfer talk for a couple of weeks leading up to the transfer window and it appears talks are now taking place with a Championship club, thought to be Coventry City or Leicester.

Johnson signed for the club from Cambridge United in May 2005 and has since made over 50 appearances for the club either side of loan spells at Ebbsfleet United and Stevenage Borough. It was under Stuart Gray when Johnson really began to shine at the end of last season, helping the club to League One safety and scoring crucial goals including the Bank Holiday Monday winner against champions Scunthorpe United at Sixfields.

With one firm bid made and other interest apparent, it seems just a matter of when and not if Johnson will leave Sixfields in the transfer window and it now remains to be seen how substantial the bid is!
